The Toyota Prius Is The Standard Bearer For Hybrid Cars

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Toyota has become an icon of craftsmanship when it comes to building cars. Toyota continues to reign in the automotive marketplace as they unveiled their hybrid vehicles. Toyota’s first hybrid, the Prius, is actually in its third revision despite the fact that other auto companies have yet to come up with their first. Simply because of its low cost and astounding fuel economy, the Prius took over as most popular vehicle of our time. On top of that, Prius is among the best in terms of reduced tailpipe emissions. Hybrid vehicles use a combination of electric motor and internal combustion engine that’s driven by gas. The electric motor made it possible for fewer toxic emissions and greater fuel economy.

Toyota built their reputation on reliability and continues to do so with the Prius. The hybrids, also those that came out almost a decade ago, continue to be a good value as a pre-owned car. There were once concerns for the hybrid car’s longevity but so far, it’s been proven durable. The fundamental draw back is, due to its complicated engine, the cost of future repairs will most likely be high. Design-wise, the Prius has not necessarily changed considerably as it is still a four-door hatchback.

The Prius’ powertrain is made up of a 1.8 liter gas engine that produces 98 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque. There’s a changeable transmission which, in tandem, is working in conjunction with two electric motors. At maximum acceleration, the power is drawn from from the two electric and gas powered motors. Fuel-efficiency is at the maximum in stop and go traffic by operating on electrical power exclusively. The battery pack can charge from regular braking.

On the highway, the new Prius has improved pick-up compared to earlier designs, but still lags from traffic stomps. Toyota had been able to increase the fuel economy to practically 50 miles per gallon. The interior was changed to include a more conventional center control set-up. The system display is now found right next to the digital speedometer and is higher up on the dash. The fundamental stereo system and climate settings aren’t touchscreen but regular physical buttons. Tall people should have it a little easier with a more adjustable seat and a telescoping steering wheel. Though the Prius appears to be quite small, the interior still has a lot of elbow room and lots of cargo space.

Toyota continues to make the Prius an outstanding automobile with amazing fuel economy and versatility. There’s really no reason why a Prius would not be an alternative as they drive like traditional cars. Although you do have other options, the Prius remains the recognized standard for great hybrid cars. Watch giovanna wheels.
